Range Operations Officer.

This position is supervisory and requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. A background investigation, credit check, pre-employment physical examination, and annual examinations thereafter are required. The role is subject to pre-employment and random drug screening. Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel is required 25% of the time. The position requires lifting up to 45-50 lbs. and the use of personal protective equipment. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. U.S. citizenship is required, and direct deposit of pay is mandatory.

About the Role

This position serves as the technical authority on all matters related to scheduling, conducting live fire training, range utilization, and range safety. The role involves preparing documents to support installation range plans, directing assigned personnel, and evaluating their performance to ensure compliance with the contract's Scope of Work. The incumbent provides technical, tactical, and managerial guidance for planning, scheduling, and executing daily range operations and serves as the point of contact for budget matters impacting range and training facility operations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical authority on scheduling, conduct of live fire training, range utilization, and range safety.
• Prepare documents supporting various installation range plans.
• Direct assigned personnel to clarify the direction of the contract and evaluate their performance.
• Provide technical, tactical, and managerial guidance on planning, scheduling, and execution of daily range operations.
• Act as the point of contact for budget matters related to daily ranges and training facilities.
• Plan work, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare work schedules.
• Assign work based on priorities, difficulty, and requirements of assignments.
• Analyze data to produce statistical comparisons of efficiencies and inefficiencies, and recommend modifications to ranges, training areas, or operating procedures.

Requirements

• One year of specialized experience, including:
  • Range and training facility safety requirements, planning, scheduling, and execution of daily range operations.
  • Weapons and ammunition characteristics, range support for live-fire training, range safety, design, maintenance, and operations.
  • Analyzing data to recommend modifications to existing ranges, training areas, or operating procedures.
• Experience must be at the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the federal service.
• 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (GS-11) if currently holding a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks.
• No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this role.

Pay

Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Salary negotiations may be authorized for candidates new to Federal service.
