Range Maintenance Officer.

About the Role

Serves as Chief, Range Support Branch. Manages maintenance and sustainment of Fort Sill's ranges, range equipment, and organization equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities

• Provide coordination and technical expertise for the management and operation of Fort Sill's automated machine gun, rifle, and pistol ranges.
• Manage maintenance of Fort Sill's ranges and training land complex for all ranges and training areas.
• Coordinate range facility maintenance and construction activity.
• Plan, direct, and manage the operation of the section directly and through subordinate supervisors.
• Perform range safety operations functions, including on-site inspections of ranges and training areas.
• Prepare documents for equipment/property request, issue, and turn-in.
• Perform maintenance on ranges and provide advice on maintenance problems encountered during live-fire training exercises.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete a pre-entry on-duty physical examination and yearly thereafter.
• This is a Term position scheduled to last 3 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
• Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
• Must meet specialized experience requirements: one year of specialized experience which includes performing range safety operations functions, preparing equipment/property documents, and performing maintenance on ranges.
• Applicants must have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks and have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
• Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
• This position requires a 1-year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
• Direct deposit of pay is required.

Education may not be substituted for experience for this job.

Additional Information

• Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment, or change to lower grade not to exceed 3 years by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years.
• Position may be made permanent without further competition.
• If return rights are approved, a return rights agreement/statement of understanding will be required prior to appointment.
• Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement.
• Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
• Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
