Range maintenance Officer.

Fort Sill, OK – Term appointment not-to-exceed 3 years; may be extended up to 8 years with DoD approval. Salary includes applicable locality pay.

About the role

Serves as Chief, Range Support Branch. Manages maintenance and sustainment of Fort Sill’s ranges, range equipment, and organizational equipment and supplies. Provides coordination and technical expertise for the management and operation of Fort Sill’s automated machine gun, rifle, and pistol ranges.

Responsibilities

• Manage maintenance of Fort Sill’s ranges and training land complex for all ranges and training areas.
• Coordinate range facility maintenance and construction activity.
• Plan, direct, and manage the operation of the section directly and through subordinate supervisors.
• Perform range safety operations functions, including on-site inspections of ranges and training areas.
• Prepare documents for equipment/property request, issue, and turn-in.
• Perform maintenance on ranges and provide advice on maintenance problems encountered during live-fire training exercises.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Incumbent must successfully complete a pre-entry on-duty physical examination and yearly thereafter.
• This is a Term position scheduled to last 3 years; may be extended to a maximum of six years depending on management needs.
• Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period; employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Direct deposit of pay is required.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
• This position requires a 1-year probationary period during which the agency evaluates fitness and whether continued employment advances the public interest.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing range safety operations functions to include on-site inspections of ranges and training areas; preparing documents for equipment/property request, issue, turn-in; and performing maintenance on ranges and providing advice on maintenance problems encountered during live-fire training exercises. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

Education may not be substituted for experience for this position.
