Location: Fayette County Health Department, Somerville, TN. Full-time position requiring a criminal background check.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of full-time customer service, clerical, or office work.

Substitutions:

  • Qualifying full-time customer service or clerical work may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • College coursework from an accredited institution may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis (up to two years).

Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative and clerical duties in a county health department medical office/clinic setting.
  • Serve as administrative support, including patient registration, scheduling, payment collection, accounts reconciliation, insurance verification, program eligibility, patient education, vital records processing, registrar services, and medical records management.
  • Review and stay updated on departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist clients with available health department services, including informing them of rights, responsibilities, and program options.
  • Interview clients for medical and administrative services while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Collect and update client demographic information, schedule appointments, and inform clients of visit requirements.
  • Verify insurance, financial information, immunization status, program eligibility, and client co-pay/deductible responsibilities.
  • Explain service charges and sliding fee scales where applicable.
  • Prepare medical records for services, including attaching forms, labels, or special instructions for providers or laboratories.
  • Process and evaluate information to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Maintain medical and administrative records, review client encounter forms for accuracy, and enter data into the health department computer system.
  • Allocate funds to proper program area budget codes and calculate charges for billing.
  • Reconcile fees collected with cash drawer reports and collect payments for services rendered.
  • Serve as a health department representative, communicating available services to the public.
  • Maintain positive communication with supervisors, peers, and clients via phone, email, or in person.
  • Handle complaints, disputes, grievances, and conflicts through negotiation.

Driver Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.

Pay

Monthly: $2,581.00 - $3,226.00
Annual: $30,972.00 - $38,712.00
