Working Environment

Dillingham is located on Nushagak Bay at the mouth of the Nushagak River in southwestern Alaska. It serves as the regional hub for Bristol Bay’s salmon fishery, home to the world’s largest wild sockeye runs. The area is also headquarters for the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, which supports walruses, seals, migratory birds, and fish, including one of the largest wild herring fisheries. Dillingham is accessible primarily by air and is 360 air miles from Anchorage.

Requirements

• A valid Driver’s License is required at the time of appointment.
• Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university or a Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college or university.
• Any combination of additional education, certification, and/or experience demonstrating competencies in:
  • Public Health: Knowledge of concepts, principles, and methods for protecting and improving community health, including disease prevention and health promotion.
  • Decision Making: Ability to make sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives implications and commits to action.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, courtesy, and tact; develops effective relationships and handles diverse or difficult situations.
  • Partnering: Builds networks and collaborates across boundaries to achieve common goals.
  • Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology to collect, analyze, and disseminate data.
• Equivalent competencies may be gained through advanced post-secondary education in nursing, public health, or related fields, and/or professional experience in public health, community health, or occupational health nursing.

• Candidates not currently licensed in Alaska but otherwise eligible may apply and receive a conditional job offer pending proof of RN licensure.

  • A copy of your current nursing license (from any state).
  • Unofficial academic transcripts (institution name/URL must be visible).

  • Proof of Tdap, MMR, and Varicella immunizations (or signed declination statements).
  • Proof of Hepatitis B immunity or a signed declination statement.
  • Annual influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement.
