Psychological Counselor- College of NSM

Description

Provides mental health services to the campus community, including one or more of the following services: individual, couples and group counseling and therapy; crisis intervention; consultation and outreach services. Provides individual, couples and group counseling to students. Participates in the development and delivery of support, awareness, outreach and consultation services to the campus community. Provides initial assessment and on-call services to clients with personal concerns and maintains appropriate case documentation, supervision and evaluation records. Performs clinical assessments and refers individuals to other resources as needed. Develops and conducts outreach seminars, workshops, and programs. May collaborate with other campus departments to create and implement programs for the campus community. Assists in the supervision and training of interns, practicum students, and/or graduate students in counseling. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• A Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work
• Licensure is required at the time of interview
• Requires application of advanced principles, techniques and theory in a professional discipline or a thorough general business management knowledge, typically obtained through a directly job-related Master's degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed
• Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience
• Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum
• We welcome applicants who do not have prior counseling center experience, provided candidates clearly articulate how their experience in other settings can be translated to a counseling center and higher education environment
• The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical skills, sound professional judgment, and a commitment to continued professional development

Desired Qualifications

• Experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • A broad range of client presenting concerns
  • Short-term/brief therapy

General Responsibilities

This position is embedded within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM). The Embedded Counselor (EC) will have a split schedule, with approximately 80 percent of their time dedicated to serving NSM students and 20 percent at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), serving undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty.

The EC's primary responsibility will be providing mental health counseling, consultation, and outreach to NSM students. The EC will establish and maintain a visible service presence within NSM, including networking and promoting CAPS services; assessing and addressing barriers to seeking mental health services; and collaborating with NSM administration, faculty, and staff to identify and address the clinical and programmatic needs of NSM students.

The EC will provide individual, couples, and group services within a short-term therapy framework; facilitate mental health workshops and other outreach programming; adhere to stepped-care principles when assessing a student's fit for services; provide crisis intervention and assessment; and engage in consultation and outreach activities.

Schedule

This position will include regular evening hours, with occasional weekend hours based on programmatic and service needs.

Within our Stepped Care model, our services include triage, essential skills workshops, single-session therapy, group counseling, and short-term couples and individual counseling. We also offer a wide range of resources and outreach programs, including "Let's Talk," QPR, and on-demand trainings on a variety of mental health topics.

The Embedded Counselor role provides an opportunity to work closely with an academic college while remaining connected to a multidisciplinary counseling center team, offering both specialized engagement with NSM students and broader clinical and professional opportunities within CAPS.
