About the role

The Counseling Center at Eugenio Mario de Hostos Community College provides ongoing personal counseling for registered Hostos students on an individual and group basis. Counseling is provided in a private, confidential, and supportive environment in which students may focus on issues and concerns which may be hindering successful academic achievement and personal development. The Counseling Center maintains a close collaborative relationship with instructional faculty and staff who are frequent sources of referral. The Counseling Center seeks applications for a Student Psychological Counselor, reporting directly to the Student Center Director.

Responsibilities

  • Provides consultation and referrals for faculty, staff, and students
  • Provides supervision and training to graduate students
  • Collaborates with community mental health agencies and hospitals to facilitate community-based services for Hostos Community College affiliated clients and maintains the directory services
  • Participates in college and division-wide orientation and enrollment activities
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Center Director/Designee
  • Provides psychological counseling to individuals and groups of students
  • Performs crisis intervention for emergency situations
  • Performs intake and assessment for personal counseling services
  • Consults with instructional and administrative staff regarding student mental health issues; may prepare and present outreach initiatives and workshops
  • Participates in recommending improvements that will impact the counseling center's effectiveness
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) preferred
  • Master's degree in an appropriate discipline for personal or psychological counseling required
  • New York State License as a mental health practitioner (social work, psychology, or mental health counseling) required
  • Five+ years of related experience in social work, psychology, or mental health counseling
  • To meet the supervised experience requirement as a licensed Mental Health Counselor, must have completed at least 3,000 clock hours providing Mental Health Counseling (supervised experience must be obtained after completion of the master's degree program required for licensure)
  • Essential duties require on-campus presence

Pay

$90,838 - $102,408; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
