PS Nurse Practitioner-Hospitalist

The Division of General Internal Medicine of the University of Utah's School of Medicine is seeking motivated candidates interested in academic medicine for the Advance Practice Clinician Hospitalist program.

About the role

This position provides inpatient care and treatment to a group of patients at University of Utah hospital units. The role may require accessing and administering medications within the scope of practice and according to State Law.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.
• Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient's condition.
• Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment.
• Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
• Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.
• Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
• Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care; initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
• Participates in quality improvement activities.
• Counsels patients, families, and significant others about health and illness, and promotes health maintenance.
• Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.

Requirements

• Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
• Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
• Utah State prescriptive privileges.
• Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
• Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area.
• Demonstrated leadership, teaching, research, and communication skills.
• Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
• Must fulfill all patient-sensitive requirements, including immunization according to CDC standards and hospital policy.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm with some weekend required.

Pay

$113,043 to $154,033 per year.
