Project Search Coordinator

Position Summary

The Project SEARCH Coordinator position provides training and job placement to transition-aged youth with disabilities to develop employability skills, acquire and maintain employment in an inter-agency collaborative environment.

Essential Functions

• Reviews potential Project Search candidates with the committee and conducts interviews using the agreed upon rubric in the selection process.
• Affords assistance with the coordination of hospital tours for incoming interns, parents, and teachers to highlight the program to potential candidates.
• Organizes annual student/parent orientation and graduation sessions with all stakeholders.
• Affords assistance with employment planning meetings with each intern, parent, supervisor, and Project Search Team.
• Leads the Project Search assessments conducted at the beginning of each cohort and submits them for billing in the CRM.
• Affords assistance with ensuring all client referrals are in place in regard to: vocational assessments, OJT rotations, and their placement upon completion of the Project SEARCH year.
• Affords assistance with assessing student skills to create an accurate skills profile of the intern and internships that will allow the team to make meaningful matches for each student/intern.
• Affords assistance with working with business liaison, department manager/mentors, instructors, and fellow skills trainers to develop internship sites, write job descriptions, task lists, job analysis and plan for necessary modifications for the internships and competitive jobs.
• Affords assistance with working with manager/mentors and co-workers to educate on disability awareness and training techniques to reinforce employability skills and assists interns to understand and interpret work culture.
• Affords assistance with assisting interns in the interview process that is unique to each host business for interns to gain both internships and competitive positions.
• Affords assistance with ensuring all Project Search billing is submitted in a timely fashion and liaise with Vocationa Rehabilitation to ensure all approvals are in place.
• Affords assistance with learning the internship duties and making any modifications (label cabinets, simplify written instructions, etc.) necessary for the successful completion of the job.
• Affords assistance with attending job orientation with the intern and clarifying information with the intern as necessary.
• Affords assistance with teaching the essential tasks/duties/core skills of the job to the intern; provides individual support specific to each intern and job task needs during the job development phase.
• Affords assistance with creating vocational profiles and individual career plans for individuals using Discovery methods.
• Affords assistance with developing employment opportunities using customized, supported, or direct placement approaches.
• Affords assistance with actively meeting deadlines, taking notes, and writing detailed reports.
• Affords assistance with assisting individuals with résumé development, employment applications, interviewing, orientation, and training as agreed upon with individual and employer.
• Affords assistance with communicating with family members and other providers to assist individuals in successfully gaining employment.
• Affords assistance with developing relationships with community employers, completing situational interviews, offering consultation services to meet employer needs.
• Affords assistance with developing natural supports in the workplace and community for individuals with disabilities.
• Affords assistance with driving clients to various locations as needed.
• Affords assistance with completing other required duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities

• Education: BA Degree in Behavioral or Social Science, Human Services, Business Administration, Psychology, Sociology and one year of experience in job placement, job coaching, job training, job counseling or other vocational rehabilitation program working with persons with disabilities.
• Experience: Individuals without a BA Degree, but has four years of experience in job placement, job coaching, job training or public vocational rehabilitation program working with persons with disabilities will be considered.
• Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Suite, Adobe and web-based database Systems; CRM experience preferred.

Other Requirements

• Position typically works 8:00 am—4:00 pm, M-F, with occasional weekend work
• Ability to pass a level 2 background check.
• Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, auto registration, auto insurance minimum coverage of bodily injury $50,000 per person/$100,000 per accident.
• Ideal candidates will have experience and knowledge of the business community as well as providing support to individuals with disabilities.
• Must be creative, passionate and be successful in job placement.
• Participates in professional development in the following areas: systematic instruction, learning work skills, training techniques and strategies and other appropriate training.
• Must have own computer, printer, smartphone with data plan, and high-speed internet connection.

Supervision

Supervises Lead Skills Instructor Project Search position.

Travel

Local travel required.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

• Environment: Classroom setting in various hospital departments.
• Physical: Standing, walking, reaching and prolonged periods sitting while driving and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds as needed.
• Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents.
• Hearing: Hear within the normal audio range with or without correction.
