About the role
Controls engineers are responsible for designing, developing, installing, and managing and maintaining control software for automated machines and processes.
Responsibilities
- Specify and design the control systems for various automated and semi-automated machines.
- Develop and validate modular, well-documented code required to implement the same.
- Test, maintain and modify new and existing systems.
- Control Panel design, product selection and check out.
- Define, develop and implement programs (ladder logic) for programmable logic controllers (PLC) primarily from Rockwell.
- HMI application and screen development and implementation.
- Testing and on-site commissioning and qualification of control systems including support of process control clients.
- Determine the proper analytical system integration solution for the application – as defined by the project quotation, budget, customer specifications, customer data sheets.
- System start-up and support.
- Development of operation and maintenance manuals.
- Provide support to project management, materials personnel, and craftsman throughout the phases of each project assigned and finalize design documentation to represent “as built” condition.
Requirements
- Bachelors or four-year degree equivalent in Engineering or 5 years of related experience.
- Bachelor of Electrical or mechanical engineering is preferred.
- Ability to apply sound engineering solutions while considering budget, schedule, and operational performance.
- Ability to read process diagrams, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics.
- An understanding of how things work mechanically and electrically as well as the ability to learn new manufacturing processes.
- Computer proficient with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- AutoCAD, HMI, PLC, SCADA experience preferred.
- Understanding of the National Electric Code and UL 508A.
- Must possess excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written and communication skills.
- Ability to apply sound engineering solutions while considering budget, schedule, and operational performance.
- Ability to read process diagrams, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics.
