Project Coordinator III

Austal USA is seeking two Project Coordinator III's to support the Submarine Program, with one position on the day shift and one on the night shift. Reports to the Project Manager and indirectly supervises Functional Leads, stepping in when the Project Manager is off-site.

Responsibilities

• Provide coordination, guidance, and direction to functional project leads to ensure successful and efficient vessel construction, focusing on milestone achievement and cost and schedule performance.
• Teach, mentor, or advise lower-level Coordinators.
• Coordinate, mediate, and resolve craft-specific production work sequence conflicts related to constraints affecting cost and schedule performance.
• Maintain a daily presence to monitor safety, housekeeping, work progress, and staff performance.
• Conduct and attend meetings as required.
• Ensure work in progress aligns with the published schedule and that production schedules are reasonable and achievable.
• Perform random validation of status reporting against actual work to ensure accuracy for Earned Value Management (EVM) processes.
• Ensure compliance with Quality procedures and documents.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with contract requirements, regulatory body, and classification society guides, rules, and regulations.
• Maintain daily communication with the Project Manager to report status, issues, and initiate variance analysis and corrective action plans.
• Monitor and validate resource requirements for actuals against planned work in progress.
• Monitor and validate use of rework and lessons learned processes to promote continuous improvement.
• Support executive briefings, meetings, tours, and reporting as requested by the Project Manager.

Requirements

• Fully competent in industry-related crafts or disciplines.
• Ability to read and interpret shipbuilding contracts, specifications, regulatory body, and classification society guides, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings and data and navigate applicable software.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or similar industrial construction, with at least 3 years at a Foreman level (or equivalent) OR minimum 2 years as a Level II Project Coordinator.
• College degree in a relevant field preferred.
• Ability to use and interpret relevant cost and schedule (EVMS) data and associated software.
• Working knowledge and past experience with EVMS principles and processes.
• Understanding of schedule reporting tools and competence in maintaining and validating schedule-related data.
• Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
• Willingness to work irregular and sometimes lengthy work schedules.
• Position involves considerable time (up to 100%) onboard vessels at various construction stages, including climbing staircases and vertical ladders at heights exceeding 75 feet in extreme temperatures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to tour all vessels and work sites.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
• Occasionally required to sit.
• Ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel.
• Perform prolonged standing.
• Ability to turn head and body at the waist from side to side.
• Lift/push/pull 50–75 lbs on an occasional basis and up to 20 lbs frequently.
• Ability to climb safely (stairs, scaffolding, ladders, ramps).
• Work at heights above 12 feet using ladders, scaffolding, or man lifts.
• Able to work at various levels (waist, eye, overhead).
• Demonstrate safe and appropriate use of required tools and equipment.
• Good balance on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.
• Sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment.
• Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) per OSHA standards.
• Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures.
• Ability to enter 18” x 36” openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods.
• Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.
• Adequate visual skills.
• Ability to fully extend arms while reaching overhead, out, to the side, and down.
• Ability to perceive attributes of objects/materials (size, shape, temperature, texture) via receptors in hands and fingers.

Work Environment

• Regular exposure to humid conditions, bright flashing lights, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat.
• Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles at or below PEL, toxic or caustic chemicals, and cold temperatures.
• Noise level usually very loud (+90 dB).

Additional guidelines: Candidate must meet Austal USA’s basic employment eligibility, including being 18 years or older, able to provide proof of US Person Status, and willing to submit to a drug screen and background check. The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required.
