About the Role

This position serves as a Program Support Assistant, providing administrative and operational support to ensure the efficient functioning of division-wide Systematic Analyses of Operations (SAO) and related administrative functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in establishing, reviewing, and maintaining controls for division-wide reports, internal controls, and administrative support functions to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail and materials, including correspondence, reports, memoranda, and inquiries, using various office equipment.
  • Review and analyze materials to determine necessary actions, research and assemble background information, and refer materials to appropriate sections.
  • Set up, operate, adjust, maintain, and monitor mail equipment; diagnose malfunctions and perform operator maintenance.
  • Edit and compose letters and reports; review correspondence for accuracy and completeness; prepare public presentation outlines; and develop standards for form letters and replies.
  • Maintain inventory control, receipt, and distribution of supplies, forms, and order forms to support continuous operations.
  • Operate office automation equipment for correspondence, reports, electronic mail, and division-specific applications; provide guidance on system utilization.
  • Liaise between Chief Support Services or Supervisory Support Services Specialist and other divisions to provide procedural guidance, assist with report requirements, and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Maintain receipts and documentation for reconciliation; reconcile statements and forward to approving officials within required timeframes.
  • Receive and screen visitors and callers for the SSD Chief, forwarding only those requiring the Chief’s attention.
  • Transport VA computer equipment securely between the official duty station and alternative work sites as needed for telework or IT repairs.

Schedule

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
  • Compressed/Flexible: Available.
  • Telework: Eligible for situational (ad hoc) telework only, with supervisory approval. Routine or recurring telework is not authorized. The selectee must report to the official duty station each scheduled workday.
  • Virtual: This is not a virtual position.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Subject to a background/security investigation.
  • May be required to serve a 1-year probationary period. Continued employment after probation is contingent on written certification that employment advances the public interest.
  • Acceptable forms of identification will be required for pre-employment. Effective May 7, 2025, non-REAL ID compliant driver’s licenses or state-issued IDs cannot be used.
  • Must meet time-in-grade requirements: For a GS-06 position, you must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-05 level in the Federal service.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement (08/10/2026):

  • Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level. Examples include:
    • Composing, reviewing, and editing correspondence.
    • Auditing statistical data.
    • Assessing organizational workflow.
    • Providing budgetary recommendations.
    • Serving as a principal timekeeper.
  • Volunteer Experience: Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, is considered. Specify average hours worked per week for part-time roles.
  • Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary but may involve walking, standing, and carrying light items. The incumbent must be able to transport VA computer equipment securely for telework or IT repairs.

There is no education substitute for this grade level.
