About the role

We are looking for a dynamic Battery Engineer professional who specializes in designing, developing, and testing batteries for portable medical devices. This role blends expertise in electrochemistry, materials science, and electrical engineering to ensure batteries meet safety, reliability, and performance requirements, while adhering to cost targets / budget.

Responsibilities

  • Research and select battery technologies tailored for handheld medical devices, focusing on energy density, storage, aging, and safety
  • Write test plans and run tests for performance under various conditions. This will include data analysis and technical presentation
  • Document plans and reports in product life management system
  • Work with product design teams to integrate batteries into handheld medical devices, ensuring optimal fit, function, and user experience
  • Collaborate with battery manufacturer representatives to ensure compliance with battery requirements, internal quality standards and use case model
  • Troubleshoot technical issues affecting battery performance, lifespan, and reliability
  • Partner with systems, mechanical, and quality engineers

Requirements

To be considered for this role, please ensure the minimum requirements are evident on your resume. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field with 7+ years of relevant experience or advanced degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of electrochemistry and battery materials (electrodes, electrolytes, separators)
  • Proficiency in battery accelerated aging for performance prediction
  • Experience with cell fabrication, testing, and failure analysis
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment and communicate technical concepts to non-specialists

Benefits & Compensation

MiniMed offers a competitive salary and flexible benefits package. For roles located in California, Seattle WA, Washington DC, Boston MA, and New York City, the salary range is $121,000 - $205,000 USD. Actual compensation may vary based on factors including experience, education, certifications, skills, market conditions, internal equity, and geographic location.
