Duties, Responsibilities & Other Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in coordination of engineering projects and helps oversee the phases of design.
- Helps ensure the successful execution of projects.
- Performs engineering calculations, interprets drawings and specifications, and coordinates multidisciplinary teams.
- Develops detailed electrical design deliverables including one-line diagrams, protection and control (P&C) drawings, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and equipment layouts for power generation and interconnection projects.
- Supports clean energy engineering projects, including utility-scale solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS), and other renewable generation facilities from concept development through IFC design packages.
- Performs and supports engineering calculations such as load summaries, cable sizing, equipment selection, and integration of electrical study outputs into design documents.
- Understands and applies interconnection requirements and interfaces between clean generation facilities and utility transmission and substation systems.
- Collaborates with Transmission and Substation engineering teams to align collector systems, interconnection substations, grounding strategies, protection schemes, and utility compliance requirements.
- Coordinates across multidisciplinary teams to support successful project execution and integrated delivery of clean energy and power delivery infrastructure.
- Interprets engineering drawings, client standards, and technical specifications to develop coordinated and constructible design packages.
- Familiarizes with electrical system study tools and outputs, including PSCAD and PLSCAD, along with load flow, short circuit, and relay coordination analysis, and translates study results into practical design solutions.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Bentley MicroStation for engineering design production and drawing development.
- Understands substation physical design principles including equipment arrangement, conduit routing, grounding, cable systems, and constructability considerations.
- Supports multiple phases of design, including conceptual development, detailed engineering, IFR/IFC packages, construction support, and as-built updates.
- Exhibits field coordination experience including testing, energization, commissioning, and site walkdowns for clean energy or power delivery projects.
- Knowledgeable of applicable codes and standards including IEEE, NEC, ANSI, and utility-specific design criteria.
- Supports junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and supporting professional development to strengthen team capability and engineering quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in part of a major project or in total project.
- Works on all phases of design and is involved in industry related services of a project.
- Performs engineering calculations, interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Prepares proposal including scope, schedule and fee.
- Aids in written technical proposals.
- Maintains professional relationships through active participation in industry associations and community involvement.
- Coordinates the work of multiple engineering disciplines and performs drafting/CADD work as needed.
- Strong design knowledge required.
- Trains and develops less experienced staff.
- Conducts site visits to gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes, and photographs.
- Reviews and approves shop drawings and ensures they meet project requirements.
- Reads and interprets technical documents necessary for job performance.
- Consults and coordinates with other practices and sub-consultants as required to ensure project success.
- Attends bi-weekly (or more frequent, as necessary) meetings with the project team to discuss project progress and tasks.
- Ensures that all projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements and operate within specified budget parameters.
- Completes all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting project scope.
- Achieves or exceeds budgeted individual utilization targets.
- Complies with all company policies and procedures.
- Completes other duties as required or assigned.
