This opportunity resides with Global Security (GS) within HII Mission Technologies. The Global Security group delivers live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) solutions; fleet sustainment; nuclear and environmental services; and international business support. About the role

Join the Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) team, the only shipyard executing mid-life RCOH for nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. This critical process occurs halfway through a carrier’s 50-year service life and includes refueling nuclear reactors, overhauling machinery, and modernizing warfare systems to ensure the Navy’s carriers remain mission-ready for their remaining 25 years of service.

The selected candidate will perform pipefitting and brazing on shipboard piping systems to support refit and fleet modernization. Within the first 90 days, the candidate must demonstrate brazing proficiency through qualification testing and achieve a satisfactory grade from the Quality Assurance Team to maintain employment.

Responsibilities

• Support trades team on active-class surface ships for alterations and installations during fleet modernization.
• Work on contracts for Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Naval Information Warfare Systems Command, and Naval Surface Warfare Center.
• Install and braze piping systems; operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment.
• Perform maintenance and technical support on shipboard systems, integrated systems, and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to resolve problems efficiently.
• Apply comprehensive knowledge of production processes to complete assignments.
• Interface with customers and provide work direction to others.
• Perform complex and non-routine tasks as required.
• Develop and use technical documents, including controlled work packages, formal work processes, test documents, reports, and task or trip reports.
• Perform duties outside of specialty to complete installation or work assignments.

Requirements

• High school diploma, trade school certification, or equivalent.
• 2–6+ years of related experience; technical or professional certifications preferred.
• Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
• Proficient in standard brazing and pipefitting procedures (e.g., P-1 High energy systems, Lock-ring, silver braze – Grade III, IV, V).
• Ability to qualify for Insert (Pull Ring) and Face Feed brazing processes.
• Experience testing installed piping systems.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications for fabrication and installation of piping systems.
• Proficient with layout tools.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
• Ability to obtain and maintain base access credentials within 60 days of start date.
• U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Shipboard experience (required for senior-level roles).
• Ability to develop specifications for fabrication and installation.
• Current or prior silver brazing qualification certificates (Grade III, IV, V) a plus.
• Graduation from or completion of a vocational school or skilled trade certificate program.
• Current or active DoD clearance preferred.
• OSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes (minimum 30 lbs).
• Able to work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperatures, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces.
• Ability to work in high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions; may require working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
• May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
• May require wearing a respirator.
• Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States (0–10% travel).

Pay

Anticipated salary range: $38,438 – $65,000. The final offer considers factors such as role function, education, training, work experience, and key skills. Bonus or other non-recurrent compensation may occasionally be offered for qualified positions.
