About the role

HII is seeking an experienced Plumber to join our team supporting the Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces (COMUSFLTFORCOM) Berthing and Messing Program, which operates duty crew berthing barges that provide essential living and working spaces for crews during ship overhaul and repair periods.

Responsibilities

As a Plumber, you will perform organizational-level (O Level) maintenance and repairs to keep all plumbing and piping systems aboard berthing barges operational.

• Plumbing & Pipefitting Maintenance: Assemble, install, maintain, and repair piping systems and plumbing fixtures for steam, heating, potable water, drainage, and wastewater systems.
• Fixture & Equipment Repair: Maintain, repair, and replace sinks, toilets, urinals, faucets, basins, showers, and drain lines when required.
• System Testing & Operation: Test piping systems for pressure and proper flow following repairs.
• Service Call Support: Respond to emergency, urgent, and routine plumbing service calls within PWS-defined time standards.
• Habitability & Preservation Tasks: Maintain deck drains and associated piping, removing obstructions and ensuring proper drainage.

Requirements

• High school diploma or Trade School equivalent; technical training/certification in plumbing preferred.
• 4+ years of demonstrated experience in plumbing, pipefitting, or marine/industrial piping systems.
• Ability to read and interpret OEM manuals, piping schematics, and technical standards.
• Familiarity with ANSI, National Plumbing Code, and OEM installation practices.
• Ability to work in shipboard, pier-side, and industrial environments.
• Ability to safely perform brazing, threading, coupling, pressure testing, and fixture installation.

Preferred Requirements

• Experience supporting Navy berthing barges or shipboard plumbing systems.
• Support machinist tasks such as drilling, tapping, boring, reaming, and grinding of metal components.
• Experience with other primary and auxiliary shipboard systems.
• Knowledge of tag out procedures and hot work requirements per OSHA and NAVSEA standards.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces aboard barges and in shipyard environments. Must consistently wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety boots, fall protection) and follow program safety training/briefings.

Schedule

Regular: Monday–Friday, 0700–1530. Overtime, weekends, and federal holidays may be required for urgent/emergency work. 10% Periodic travel to Kittery, ME and Groton/New London, CT for site inspections and coordination.

Pay

The listed salary range for this role is $44,808.00 - $65,000.00, intended as a good faith estimate based on the role's location, expectations, and responsibilities.
