About the role
HII is seeking a skilled Mechanic-2 to join our team supporting the Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces (COMUSFLTFORCOM) Berthing and Messing Program.
Responsibilities
- Installs, operates, maintains, repairs and modifies equipment systems aboard U.S. Navy berthing barges (APL) used to house ship’s personnel during maintenance availabilities.
- Performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.
- Analyzes and evaluates products and related performance. Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions to eliminate problem in minimum time.
- Installs, upgrades and removes products ensuring coordinative engineering field change.
- Maintains effective customer communications and relations.
- May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.
- Applies understanding of production and processes to assignments.
- Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May assist in the development and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
- Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.
Requirements
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 2 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications.
- Must provide basic hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems using diagnostic tools.
- Experience conducting preventive maintenance schedules.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and OEM specifications.
- Familiar with OSHA, shipyard, and Navy safety practices (LOTO, confined space, fall protection, PPE).
Preferred Requirements
- Experience supporting U.S. Navy berthing barges (APL) or afloat platforms.
- Knowledge of NAVSEA drawings/specs and shipyard practices.
- Experience with other primary and auxiliary shipboard systems.
- Familiar with OSHA-10/30, shipyard, and Navy safety practices (LOTO, confined space, fall protection, PPE).
