About the role
Provides leadership, training, and oversight of the hospital’s phlebotomy program. Serves as a subject matter expert for technical issues, supervises trainees, and ensures compliance with quality control and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Handles difficult or complex blood draws.
- Organizes workflow and ensures timely specimen collection and delivery.
- Maintains detailed and accurate records of specimens collected.
- Supervises, trains, and mentors trainees during hands-on training and completes accurate documentation.
- Provides ongoing education, ensuring current knowledge of standards.
- Resolves technical issues and supports staff with difficult blood draws.
- Opens and closes draw sites, ensuring readiness and compliance with hospital protocols.
- Ensures quality control and maintenance tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Maintains inventory of phlebotomy and processing supplies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience required.
- (BLS) Basic Life Support required.
- ASCP certification or an equivalent certification is required and must be maintained.
- Prior training or supervisory experience preferred.
- Proficient in leadership and teaching skills within a clinical environment.
- Ability to demonstrate expert-level proficiency in phlebotomy techniques.
- Ability to apply advanced problem-solving skills to technical and patient care challenges.
Qualifications
- BLS Basic Life Support Certified
- Phlebotomy Certification (ASCP PBT1000, NHA PBT1001, NHCO PBT1002, NPA PBT1003, NPCE PBT1004)
