About the role
The Phlebotomist Group Lead at Quest Diagnostics is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Patient Service Centers and In-Office Phlebotomy sites. This role involves ensuring accurate specimen collection, data entry, and administrative support.
Responsibilities
- Collect specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screenings, and insurance exams.
- Administer oral solutions as per established training.
- Research and verify test/client information using lab technology systems or directories.
- Complete data entry requirements, including patient registration, test order entry, and standing order management.
- Enter billing information and collect payments when necessary, ensuring the security of assets and credit card information.
- Data entry and processing of specimens, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required by test orders.
- Perform departmental-related clerical duties such as data entry, inventory management, and answering phones.
- Ensure compliance with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures, including safety manuals and quality assurance manuals.
- Verify patient demographic information and initials, ensuring signatures are present and correct during venipuncture.
- Compile and submit monthly statistics and data, maintaining appropriate logs in a timely manner.
- Participate in special projects and teams, staying updated on company communications and assisting with the distribution of technical information.
- Perform Point of Care (POC) testing as needed and complete training/competency evaluations according to standard operating procedures.
- Assist with the transition of new employees into the PSC work environment, providing guidance and support.
- Communicate professionally with clients to resolve or refer issues, documenting problems and reporting critical issues.
- Ensure facilities are maintained in good condition, taking appropriate action to advise supervisors of required repairs and maintenance.
- Support Patient Inquiries from the website, Office of Chairman, and Managed Care, as needed.
- Provide input on the performance evaluations of the Phlebotomists.
Requirements
- Seven years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Keyboard/data entry experience.
- Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record.
- Physical requirements: lift light to moderately heavy objects, sit or stand for long periods, perform repetitive tasks, and use fine dexterity.
- Skills: excellent phlebotomy skills, superior customer focus, decision-making based on established procedures, and ability to handle multiple priorities in a high-volume setting.
- Education: high school diploma or equivalent.
- Licenses and Certifications: phlebotomy certification (required in certain states).
Qualifications
- Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
- Minimum five years in a Patient Service Center (PSC)/In-Office (IOP) environment preferred.
- Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred.
