About the role
The Phlebotomist Group Lead at Quest Diagnostics is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Patient Service Center (PSC), Mobile, Long Term Care, and In-Office Phlebotomy teams. This role involves ensuring accurate specimen collection, data entry, and administrative support. The successful candidate will also serve as a mentor and resource advisor for new employees.
Responsibilities
- Collect specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screenings, and insurance exams.
- Administer oral solutions according to established training.
- Research and confirm test/client information, entering data into lab technology systems or directories.
- Complete data entry requirements accurately, including patient registration, test order entry, and standing order management.
- Enter billing information and collect payments when required, ensuring the security of assets and credit card information.
- Data entry and processing specimens, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as necessary.
- Perform departmental-related clerical duties, such as data entry, inventory management, and answering phones.
- Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Verify patient demographic information and initials, ensuring the patient signs in the presence of the tube labels.
- Compile and submit monthly statistics and data.
- Maintain appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner.
- Complete training courses and stay updated with the latest phlebotomy techniques.
- Travel to Territory Manager meetings if necessary.
- Participate in special projects and teams.
- Stay informed about company communications and assist with the distribution of technical information.
- Perform Point of Care (POC) testing and complete training/competency evaluations.
- Assist with inventory counts and schedule preparation.
- Communicate professionally with clients to resolve or refer issues, documenting problems and reporting critical issues.
- Ensure staff follows safety precautions and maintains a clean, safe work environment.
- Implement and distribute technical information and communication to the workgroup.
- Support Patient Inquiries from various departments, including the website, Office of Chairman, and Managed Care.
- Provide input on the performance evaluations of the Phlebotomists.
Requirements
- Seven years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Keyboard/data entry experience.
- Flexible availability based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record.
- Physical requirements: lift light to moderately heavy objects, sit or stand for long periods, perform repetitive tasks, and use fine dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
- Phlebotomy certification (preferred).
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
- Minimum 5 years in a Patient Service Center (PSC)/In-Office (IOP) environment preferred.
- Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred.
