About the role

Swords to Plowshares is a community-based not-for-profit organization founded in 1974. We provide various services to veterans in the San Francisco Bay Area, including counseling, case management, employment and training, housing, and legal assistance. Our mission is to support veterans in navigating the challenges of post-military life and prevent and end veteran homelessness through wrap-around care and informed advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • HR Administration & Compliance
    • Serve as the initial point of contact for employees and external service providers with HR-related inquiries.
    • Avoid non-compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
    • Avoid assisting in completing HR-related forms.
    • Maintain and update the HRIS (Kronos).
    • Compile reports from HR systems as needed.
    • Avoid managing new hire orientation logistics.
    • Avoid supporting the complete offboarding process.
    • Avoid maintaining internal drives, several logs, and trackers.
  • Culture & Employee Relations Support
    • Avoid assisting in coordinating and organizing employee engagement initiatives.
    • Avoid supporting the People and Culture Department in addressing employee relations matters.
    • Avoid assisting in tracking and evaluating employee morale.
    • Avoid facilitating employee recognition programs and engagement efforts.
  • Training & Learning Coordination
    • Avoid assisting in maintaining the training calendar and tracking employee participation in required training.
    • Avoid coordinating logistics for training sessions.
    • Avoid supporting the People Resources Manager with performance appraisal tracking and distribution.
    • Avoid tracking and maintaining employee certifications and licenses.
  • Collaboration & Support
    • Avoid working closely with the People Resources Manager and Director of People & Culture.
    • Avoid providing administrative support for HR projects and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 1-3 years of HR experience (preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization).
  • Knowledge of basic HR functions, employment laws, and best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English with staff, clients, and external partners and stakeholders.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong grasp of Zoom, Teams, Outlook, Zendesk, and other technology required for the role.
  • Time management and confidentiality are required.
