Academic staff position in the Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at the School of Medicine and Public Health.

About the role

The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin is recruiting a pediatric cardiothoracic anesthesiologist primarily to provide clinical anesthesia care with teaching opportunities to residents and medical students. If appointed on the CHS track, duties will include education and research components. This position is available at 75%-100% FTE and requires onsite work at a designated campus location.

Applicants will be considered for the titles: Clinical Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, Clinical Assistant Professor, Professor (CHS), Associate Professor (CHS), or Assistant Professor (CHS), determined by experience and qualifications of the finalist.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical anesthesia care for pediatric cardiothoracic patients.
  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows in the operating room and through didactic sessions, with a primary emphasis on general anesthesia procedures and techniques or subspecialty training.
  • Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.
  • Work collegially with other faculty members.
  • For CHS track appointments: Engage in education or research activities to further the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.
  • For Clinician Teacher (CT) track appointments: Provide clinical anesthetic care in an anesthesia team model, including operating room duties and evening/weekend call.
  • Opportunity for participation in clinical research for interested candidates on the CHS track.

Qualifications

Required:

  • WI Medical license by start date of position.
  • Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology by start date of position.
  • Completion of anesthesiology residency program, and certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
  • Subspecialty fellowship training in pediatric cardiothoracic anesthesiology, or extensive experience with pediatric cardiothoracic anesthesia patients.
  • MD, DO, or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Experience or interest in clinical research.
  • Teaching experience with residents and medical students.
