About the role

The Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Pediatrics is dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate, state-of-the-art pediatric health care, research and education at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, a full-service children’s hospital within the VCU Medical Center. CHoR offers a robust continuum of pediatric services, research and education, and is the region’s only full-service children’s hospital. CHoR provides emergency, primary, secondary, advanced, tertiary and long-term care. CHoR has 11 locations across Central Virginia and provides more than 42 pediatric medical/surgical services.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching
  • Provides “bedside” clinical teaching of residents, medical students, student nurse anesthetists and others. Participates in the didactic teaching programs of the Department at this institution and attends conferences, rounds, and staff meetings as required by Chair.
  • Research
  • May pursue clinical or laboratory research and other scholarly interests independently but within the guidelines of the Institution and Department. Participate in clinical trials depending upon interest and area of specialization.
  • Service
  • May serve on various departmental, School of Medicine, University or VCU Health System committees as requested by Chair or determined via individual interest. the Department stresses the importance of being a good citizen of the institution and fosters community service at all levels.
  • Clinical
  • Provide clinical anesthesiology care to patients as directed by Department Chair or delegate including main OR and ambulatory areas. May supervise and direct Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) as appropriate. Direct anesthesia care in other critical care areas of the medical center.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree
  • ABA Board-certified anesthesiologist with subspecialty training and certification in pediatric cardiac anesthesia.
  • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
  • Eligible for employment in the United States
  • Good communication, clinical and teaching skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Pay

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
