Patient Support Rep
About the Role
This position performs a variety of general administrative support duties associated with the patient intake process for the assigned Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) facility, following established internal guidelines and procedures. Incumbents interact directly with patients at the front desk and/or on the phone to perform follow-up activities.
Responsibilities
- Ensure patients are checked in and out for care.
- Collect and enter demographic and financial data into the patient's medical record.
- Gather and validate insurance information using routine methods; schedule patient appointments.
- Collect co-pays, co-insurance, and prior balances.
- Obtain and process referrals, authorizations, and pre-certifications for patients requiring ancillary testing and/or surgical procedures.
- Work with patients to fulfill referral needs and determine insurance benefit coverage for hardware-related items (e.g., retail contact lenses) by liaising directly with insurance carriers.
- Register and/or check patients in and out.
- Handle and reconcile payments.
- Monitor and reconcile issues prior to patient visits.
- Process referral orders and/or pre-authorizations.
- Coordinate appointments and ancillary services.
- Respond to patient questions regarding routine billing and insurance matters.
- Coordinate patient instructional and educational activities.
Requirements
- Healthcare-related experience required.
- One year of customer service work experience required (two years preferred).

Pay
$23.90 - $34.79 per hour.
