About the role

This position registers and interviews patients, completes pre-admissions, and ensures information accuracy. It handles routine patient inquiries and issues, and works closely with other areas including departments and physician offices. The role greets patients and processes them through to the appropriate area.

Responsibilities

  • Registers or pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that require authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral.
  • Collaborates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged.
  • Requests upfront payment of deposits from responsible parties.
  • Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis.

Requirements

  • Frequent walking and maneuvering through doors, up/down ramps and elevators.
  • Pushing a wheelchair with a patient in it.
  • Responding quickly to medical STATs and emergencies.
  • Sitting frequently.
  • Lifting 20-50 pounds occasionally.
  • Works in a fast-paced environment with numerous interruptions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Accurate spelling and attention to detail required.
  • Must be able to type 40 words per minute.
  • Knowledge of patient registration, insurance, and hospital billing preferred.
  • Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of third-party reimbursement preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and customer service skills required.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Pay

Base compensation listed within the listed pay range based on factors such as qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and/or training. Premium pay such as shift, on-call, and more based on a teammate's job. Opportunity for annual increases based on performance.
