About the role

This position is part-time, benefits eligible, and works varied hours. The pay range is $22.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Registers or pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that require authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral.
  • Collaborates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged.
  • Requests upfront payment of deposits from responsible parties.
  • Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • A bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Accurate spelling and attention to detail.
  • Ability to type 40 words per minute.
  • Patient registration, insurance, and hospital billing knowledge preferred.
  • Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of third-party reimbursement.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and third-party reimbursement.
  • Ability to respond quickly to medical STATs and emergencies.
  • Frequent sitting and occasional lifting of 20-50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to walk, push a wheelchair, maneuver through doors, up/down ramps and elevators.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
