Patient Escort
About the role
The Patient Transporter coordinates with doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals to transport patients throughout the hospital. This includes moving patients from their rooms to various locations, assisting with patient transfers, and maintaining logs of time-sensitive specimens and supplies.
Responsibilities
- Safely and professionally transports patients without incident to units, testing areas, and other areas on campus.
- Maintains patient safety at all times while in the company of the patient.
- Remains with discharged patients until their ride arrives for pick-up.
- Transports patients to the discharge center during operating hours.
- Lifts the bed rails up and places the nurse call button near the patient after placing the patient back in bed.
- Utilizes proper body mechanics when lifting, pulling, or pushing patients to avoid injury or damage to the patients.
- Keeps patients informed and gives periodic updates, as appropriate.
- Positively contributes to the organization's goal of patient throughput.
- Delivers medical items to nursing units at the request of the House Supervisor.
- Escorts visitors, patients, or other staff members to other appropriate areas of the hospital.
- Advise supervisor of current or anticipated problems.
- Effectively uses time and resources to accomplish duties.
- Solves conflicting matters and schedules with peers and other staff.
- Accepts assignments and completes them in a timely fashion.
- Aware of possible compliance issues and reports them immediately.
- Promotes and supports LCMC's performance improvement initiatives.
- Communicates clearly, concisely, and accurately; uses positive non-verbal communication effectively.
- Demonstrates and actively promotes compliance with all state and federal regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Adheres to LCMC Health's policies and procedures, as well as the Code of Conduct and all laws and regulations.
- Performs duties in an ethical manner.
- Documents in accordance with departmental and organizational policies.
- Able to apply job knowledge to improve work processes.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- 2 years of work experience.
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) - American Heart Association.
- Work shift: Evenings (United States of America).
