Responsibilities

  • Patient & Visitor Interactions / Customer Service / Hourly Rounding: Answer patient call lights, answer phones, assist visitors, perform purposeful hourly rounding.
  • Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Learn patient safe handling skills, assist in ambulation, assist in transferring, lifting, and repositioning patients using Safe Patient Handling equipment.
  • Basic Nursing Care / ADLs: Assist with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, using bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc., under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
  • Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Ensure patient safety during transfers and repositioning.
  • Procedures and Treatments: Complete and document patient care activities, explain and perform procedures, notify appropriate personnel of responses and questions, collect non-sterile specimens, perform point of care patient blood sugar testing, promote and maintain skin integrity.
  • Care Companion / Sitter / Observer: Remain with a patient as needed to ensure safety.
  • Department Specific Tasks: Support the nursing team with indirect patient care activities, restock equipment/linens, clean equipment, answer and relay telephone calls, file and maintain records, retrieve and deliver supplies, specimens, instruments, test results, etc.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred; completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider issued by either American Heart Association; if not current or does not have certification, required to be obtained within the employee’s introductory period (within 90 days of hire date).
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal skills including teamwork, ability to prioritize, ability to receive and follow through on directions; demonstrates concern for and commitment to the welfare of patients and families; trained and expected to observe all fire and safety procedures and patient experience standards.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to work under pressure to meet patient care needs; utilizes appropriate patient movement equipment for patient-lifting and transfers when the transfer is a non-emergency situation; wears an N95 mask/PAPR and other PPE when applicable.
