Patient Care Technician, Medical Stroke Telemetry, Evenings

Hourly Pay Range: $18.84 - $27.32 – The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Full Time, Evening shift (3pm-11:30p) with Rotating Weekends – 32 hours per week.

About the role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT), under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN) and according to established procedures, performs patient care tasks and procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort, and safety of patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served on the assigned unit. Responsibilities

• Patient & Visitor Interactions / Customer Service / Hourly Rounding: Interact with patients and visitors, answer patient call lights, answer phones, and assist visitors within the facility. Perform purposeful hourly rounding on all assigned patients.
• Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Assist in the ambulation of patients and help nursing staff with transferring, lifting, and/or repositioning patients utilizing Safe Patient Handling equipment.
• Basic Nursing Care - ADLs: Provide basic care by assisting patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, and responding to patient call lights. Follow policies and procedures related to patient and staff safety.
• Admission / Discharge / Transfers: Assist with room set-up, welcoming new patients, room orientation, discharging, and/or transferring patients. Provide patient/family orientation to the room and hospital according to hospital practice. Transport/escort patients to their destination, ensuring safety and regularly updating patients.
• Procedures and Treatments: Accurately complete and document patient care activities including ADLs, vital signs, weights, intake & output, and calorie counts according to policy. Perform procedures such as urinary catheter removal, ECGs, wound care, and dressing changes under the direction of the nurse. Notify appropriate personnel of patient responses and questions. Collect non-sterile specimens such as routine urinalysis and stool specimens. Accurately perform point-of-care blood sugar testing. Promote and maintain skin integrity by reporting patient problems to the appropriate team member.
• Care Companion / Sitter / Observer: Remain with a patient as a means to keep the patient safe when requested by the RN or LPN.
• Department-Specific Tasks: Support the nursing team by performing indirect patient care activities such as restocking equipment/linens and cleaning equipment. Perform unit support duties including answering and relaying telephone calls, filing, maintaining records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, and test results.

Requirements

• Eligible to work in the U.S.
• Completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred.
• Completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred.
• Current BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider issued by the American Heart Association (Required).
• No prior experience required.

Working Conditions

• Normal mental, visual, and auditory attention much or all of the time, with manual dexterity required for sustained periods.
• Visual acuity adequate to assess patients and read/record patient charts.
• Auditory acuity adequate to converse with patients, healthcare team members, and coworkers who may be wearing masks.
• Potential for exposure to blood, body fluids, and other potentially infectious materials, chemicals, and hazardous conditions which may pose a health risk.
• Able to work under pressure to meet patient care needs.

Physical Demands

• In non-emergency situations, must utilize appropriate patient movement equipment for lifting and transfers. In urgent events, may need to assist with lifting up to 50 pounds.
• When applicable, wear an N95 mask/PAPR and other PPE.
• Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting throughout the shift.
