About the role

We're seeking a dynamic and compassionate individual to join our team as a Patient Service Representative. Reporting directly to the Registration Team Lead, you'll greet patients and guests in a courteous manner, initiate scheduling, and ensure smooth check-in processes. Your role is crucial in ensuring accurate patient information is captured and maintained, supporting efficient financial transactions, and enhancing overall patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Create, activate, and complete the patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission process.
  • Gather and input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information accurately.
  • Explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.
  • Perform financial analysis and inform patients of their financial responsibility.
  • Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and follow closing cash drawer process.
  • Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships, and resolve conflicts professionally.
  • Adapt to different patient populations, ensuring privacy and clear communication.
  • Other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or similar customer service environment.
  • Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or Certification as a Medical Assistant (or other medical specialty-based certification) preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in Windows-style applications and various software packages.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to solve practical problems and handle high-stress situations.
  • Excellent decision-making skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Proficiency with healthcare insurance benefits and payer guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local billing regulations.

Skills

  • Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and information retrieval.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for presenting information clearly and professionally.
  • Technical knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits and payer guidelines.
  • Ability to adapt behavior to specific patient populations.
