About the role

The Patient Access Advocate is responsible for various duties including greeting patients, performing registration functions, confirming account accuracy, collecting payments, and providing customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients in a friendly, courteous and professional manner in both in person and over the phone.
  • Check patients in and out.
  • Perform visit closure activities including collecting payment and following up as necessary.
  • Provide wayfinding to patients and/or visitors.
  • Update demographics, verify insurance, collect payments, and document registration information.
  • Confirm account information is correct for clean billing.
  • Answer and screen phone calls, take messages, and provide information to patients and visitors.
  • Create and maintain patient files.
  • Manage clerical duties such as copying, scanning, and faxing documents.
  • Ensure the front desk, waiting room, and children's play area are clean and presentable.
  • Work independently and prioritize multiple demands effectively.
  • Follow HIPAA policies and company procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum typing speed of 50 wpm.
  • Flexibility and effective communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in a healthcare setting or one year of customer service background.
  • Basic understanding of insurance and medical terminology.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  • Basic math skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Standing, walking, use of hands, reaching, sitting, talking, and listening.
  • Lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.

  • Ability to manage conflict and seek help from supervisors when needed.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Focus on productivity and attendance at staff meetings and huddles.
  • Non-exempt status with scheduling based on operational needs.
