About the Role

The Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering (IME) Department at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo is seeking applications for semester-by-semester part-time lecturer appointments during the 2026-2027 academic year. Candidates should be capable of teaching in areas of Industrial Engineering and/or Manufacturing Engineering.

Requirements

  • B.S. in industrial or manufacturing engineering or a related field is required.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required.

Qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in industrial or manufacturing engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
  • Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.

Pay

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
  • Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
  • Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
  • Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,211

About the Department

Cal Poly is ranked as the best public master's university in the western U.S., and its Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering program is also ranked as one of the best public master's level programs in the United States. The program emphasizes undergraduate and master's level education through a laboratory-intensive, hands-on curriculum.

The 30+ tenured, tenure-track, and lecturer/adjunct faculty in the department are dedicated engineers with a passion for teaching, innovative applied research, interacting with students, and advising student club activities. The "learn by doing" philosophy is central to the curriculum, integrating design throughout and culminating in a senior project capstone design experience.
