About the Department

The Experience Industry Management Department of the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences offers a B.S. in Recreation, Parks, & Tourism Administration and an M.S. in Agriculture with a specialization in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Management. The department, accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions, provides areas of study in Event Planning and Management, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Sport Management, Outdoor, Adventure, and Resource Recreation, and Community Services Management. The department's vision is to promote healthy lifestyles, protect memorable places, and facilitate life-enhancing experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in the following areas:
    • Resort and lodging management
    • Hospitality, conventions, & meeting management
    • Special event planning
    • Festival & event management
    • Leadership & diverse groups
    • Professionalism & customer experiences
    • Experiential marketing
    • Financing recreation, parks & tourism
    • Introduction to the experience industry

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Parks, Leisure Studies, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Recreation, Parks, Tourism, or a related field.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Hospitality management
    • Event planning
    • Convention management
    • Experiential marketing
    • Recreation leadership
    • Risk & facility management
    • Grants and resources development
    • Environmental education
    • Finance
  • Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
  • Relevant work experience and professional capabilities.

Pay

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
  • Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
  • Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
  • Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211

Special Conditions

  • Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
