About the role
The Materials Engineering Department is establishing a pool of qualified applicants for possible part-time teaching positions during the 2026-2027 academic year. Duties involve teaching Materials Engineering courses and possible supervision of student laboratory projects.

Requirements
- B.S. in Materials Engineering or related field, teaching, and/or recent U.S. industrial experience required
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required
Qualifications
- B.S. in Materials Engineering or related field, teaching, and/or recent U.S. industrial experience required
- Masters and/or professional registration preferred
- Experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment
- Relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities
Special Conditions
- The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
- Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispso.
Pay
- Classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are provided in the initial qualifications section.
Schedule
- Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term.
- Applicants must be available on very short notice.
