Part-Time Interdisciplinary Studies Instructor (Pool)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay

Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based on education and credited experience. Initial placement ranges:

• Lab Course (Salary Schedule HB): $89.20 – $130.94 per hour
• Lecture Course (Salary Schedule HC): $103.85 – $151.07 per hour

Assignments are semester-based and offered as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist new, first-time college students in making a successful transition to college by providing opportunities to explore college student mindset, identity, habits, and expectations.
• Through a shared reading experience and series of common assignments, instruct students to develop critical reading strategies, information literacy awareness and skills, and establish a community of first-year support.
• Apply disciplinary expertise to inform course content.

• Successful teaching techniques that engage students actively in learning, encouraging them to become independent, creative learners with critical thinking skills.
• Methods for ensuring consistent and appropriate monitoring of student progress.
• Proven experience with community building and peer learning.
• Understanding of and commitment to teaching community college students.
• Experience working with diverse students, including those with limited English language proficiency.
• Use and development of teaching methods that emphasize cooperation, collaboration, and student engagement.
• Preparation for or experience in designing and preparing student success plans.
• Strength in interpersonal communication.
• Ability to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences.
• Acceptance of the division’s commitment to established academic standards.

Requirements

• Master’s or higher in the interdisciplinary area, or
• Master’s or higher in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper division or graduate coursework in at least one other constituent discipline.
• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice both within and outside of the classroom.

• Degree Equivalence: A degree with similar content to those listed for the relevant discipline, where the degree title or area of expertise differs slightly.
