Part-Time Women's Studies Instructor (Pool)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay

Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based on education and credited experience. Initial placement ranges:

• Lab Course (Salary Schedule HB): $89.20 – $130.94 per hour
• Lecture Course (Salary Schedule HC): $103.85 – $151.07 per hour

Schedule

Semester assignments as needed; in-person work expected with potential to participate in the District's telework program.

Responsibilities

• Teach classes as assigned from the regular Social Justice Studies curriculum, including courses in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies
• Assist in curriculum assessment, revisions, and new course development
• Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours
• Perform other professional duties as required by contract and institutional needs

Requirements

• Master’s or higher in Women’s Studies, OR
• Master’s or higher in the interdisciplinary area, OR
• Master’s or higher in one of the constituent disciplines and upper-division or graduate coursework in at least one other discipline
• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity, and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff

Equivalency may be established through degree similarity, academic background (24+ semester units in the field), or professional achievement (evidence of outstanding work, training, publications, speaking engagements, or equivalent ability).

Skills

• Expertise in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies or Queer/LGBTQ+ Studies
• Proficiency with classroom technology and multimedia instruction
• Commitment to the role and purpose of the community college
• Ability to organize and explain materials for students with varying abilities, preparation levels, and cultural backgrounds
• Strong communication and leadership skills

Work Demands

• Frequent hearing, speaking, and comprehension of speech at normal levels
• Upper limb dexterity for operating computers and peripheral equipment
• Vision sufficient for daily use of computers, databases, and written materials
• Extended periods of sitting, bending at the waist, and physical presence at on-site locations
• Ability to communicate and interact with others, observe and interpret situations, and learn new information
• Perform highly detailed work on multiple concurrent tasks under changing priorities and deadlines with frequent interruptions
• Self-regulate emotion and behavior
