Paralegal - Trademarks
Responsibilities
- Entirely responsible for all facets of domestic and international trademark filings, prosecution, renewals and maintenance, including related correspondence, monitoring and maintaining docket deadlines, and updating trademark docket.
- Conduct and review trademark searches prior to use/filing; prepare analysis of usage/registration risk.
- Direct interaction with business groups such as marketing, product development, and corporate legal teams, ensuring trademark strategies align with business goals.
- Prepare, authenticate and/or legalize supporting trademark documentation on a global basis.
- Prepare and file documents electronically with the U.S. Trademark Office.
- Extensive interaction with foreign associates, providing instructions regarding filing, prosecution, renewal and various other trademark issues.
- Review and manage numerous invoices from foreign associates through electronic billing system (Legal Tracker).
- Prepare License/Trademark Usage Agreements as needed.
- Monitor incorrect and infringing trademark use and take action and/or follow up as needed.
- Assist marketing department with review of marketing materials and press releases for adherence to branding standards.
- Monitor potential infringing domain names; Evaluate and renew domain names on a quarterly basis.
- Prepare Terms & Conditions/Rules for marketing promotions and contests.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical trademark files.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of trademark prosecution processes, both domestic and international, and at least 10 years of experience as an intellectual property paralegal (focusing primarily on trademark law) in a law firm or corporate legal department.
- The ability to work independently and multitask, as well as be detail oriented with excellent communication (verbal and written) and proofreading skills.
- Advanced computer skills with MS Office products, Corsearch, and familiarity with trademark docketing procedures and software (such as CPI or Anaqua), and electronic billing systems (such as LawTrac or LegalTracker), Anaqua and LegalTracker experience being preferred.
- An associate’s degree. Undergraduate degree and certification of paralegal training from a program certified by the American Bar Association is preferred.
