About the role

The paralegal assists the Safe Children Coalition conduct its business in compliance with applicable law to positively impact the outcomes of children and families we serve through the system of care. This position serves as the main point of contact for all public and client record requests in compliance with applicable federal and state laws, coordinates administrative operations, and supports organizational initiatives to ensure efficient and compliant operations.

Responsibilities

  • Process public record requests from receipt through completion, including requests made pursuant to FS 39.00145, in accordance with FS 119, FS 39.202, HIPAA, and all applicable federal and state laws, Department of Children and Families requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for case record requests in collaboration with the Chief Legal Officer and Records Room Designee.
  • Ensure requests are completed accurately within required statutory timeframes.
  • Copy, prepare, and redact case files for authorized public records requests.
  • Draft, edit and proofread correspondence and legal documents, such as pleadings and contracts.
  • Research regulations, laws, and legal articles to assist with the preparation of reports, case files, and legal advice.
  • Collect, examine, and organize evidence and other legal documents for attorney review and case preparation.
  • Provide general administrative assistance, such as maintaining the attorney's calendar, processing administrative work associated with business travel and/or program purchases, and taking meeting minutes
  • Assist with front desk coverage and general office operations as needed.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Strong preference given to a candidate who possesses a paralegal certificate or a degree in pre-law, psychology, or criminal justice.
  • Experience with public records requests and redactions preferred.
  • Equivalent experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience working within child welfare, healthcare, government, or a similarly regulated environment preferred.
