About the Role
Join McIlveen Family Law as a paralegal on our family law team. You'll work closely with attorneys to manage complex litigation, drafting and organizing key documents that drive successful case outcomes. Responsibilities
- Draft and prepare pleadings, discovery, equitable distribution and financial affidavits, correspondence, and memoranda from written drafts and dictation.
- Manage attorney calendars, deadlines, client meetings, phone conferences, and mediations using master calendar and deadline-reminder systems.
- Open, maintain, and close client files; run conflict checks; and coordinate new matters in our document management system.
- Support trial preparation by identifying documents for discovery, assisting with witness preparation, and building trial notebooks.
- Serve as a welcoming first point of contact for clients and visitors via phone, email, and in person while maintaining attorney-client confidentiality.
- Process expense reports, proof billing sheets, and review and edit bills to keep billing on track.
- Collaborate with the FAST team (ND specialists, duplication, court filing, paralegals, and staff attorneys) and assist with reception and admin coverage as needed.
Requirements
- 3+ years of family law experience and 2+ years of complex litigation experience.
- Associate's degree or certificate in paralegal studies.
- NALA or NC Paralegal Certification and a Notary commission.
- Ability to transcribe legal documents, correspondence, and reports from rough draft or dictation at 70 wpm.
- Sharp organizational skills to juggle competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication, with professionalism and tact for diverse clients, attorneys, and staff.
- Solid proofreading and editing skills (grammar, punctuation, spelling) and comfort with basic calculations on forms.
- Flexibility for occasional overtime or irregular hours when case demands arise.
