About the role
The Office of Legal Counsel to the Judiciary Commission seeks a paralegal to assist with monthly Commission meetings, legal filings of cases, Commission follow-up, and various other paraprofessional tasks. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required. Must be detail-oriented, as well as able to write and proof well.Responsibilities
- Maintains and updates case management software, analyzes data, generates reports
- Assists attorneys with case monitoring
- Generates various legal documents including correspondence, agendas, ballots, etc.
- Affords assistance with maintaining list of screened out files for member review and ratification
- Affords assistance with distributing meeting materials to Commission members
- Affords assistance with compiling record of Commission proceedings for submission to Supreme Court
- Affords assistance with clocking-in case filings
- Performs legal research or other duties for special projects as assigned
Requirements
- Paralegal certification from an accredited school or college (or equivalent experience)
- Five to eight years of related experience preferred
Qualifications
- Knowledge of criminal and civil procedural law and the administrative operations of the various state courts
- Knowledge of legal terminology, principles, and practices
- Knowledge of the organization and structure of the judicial system
- Knowledge of legal resources needed to research case law
- Knowledge of computer software for document management
- Ability to read and interpret laws, rules, and guidelines, and apply them to specific circumstances
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
- Ability to gather a great amount of information vital to the resolution of pending matters in the most efficient and concise manner
- Ability to follow detailed instructions, often given verbally, and to work independently under general supervision
