About the role
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and results-oriented individual to serve as a Paralegal. Responsibilities
- Serves as Paralegal and attends court hearings as directed.
- Reviews all files on call sheet to ensure files have been received.
- Performs special projects and prepares statistical or other reports.
- Receives and processes all subpoenas received by staff.
- Obtains legal materials upon request of staff attorneys, either from law libraries or from other Department offices.
- Under the direction of staff attorneys, files court documents and serves legal papers.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Requirements
- Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with coursework in legal, pre-legal, English, statistics, or directly related fields.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of experience in a law office or legal area of a public or business organization applying working knowledge of precedent cases, legal writing style, format, and vocabulary.
- Two years of experience in technical report writing, vocabulary, and word usage in a legal setting.
- Two years of experience in a public or business organization utilizing the ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Two years of experience analyzing and organizing facts, evidence, and precedents, and drafting written material for legal staff in a clear and logical format.
- Two years of experience organizing and presenting statistical data.
Pay
Anticipated starting salary: $5,127/month (Step 1b). Full range: $5,127 – $7,135/month.
