Position Summary
The Personal Injury / Civil Litigation Paralegal will provide comprehensive support to attorneys handling a variety of personal injury and civil litigation matters. This position requires strong case management abilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage personal injury and civil litigation cases from intake through resolution.
- Communicate regularly with clients, insurance adjusters, expert witnesses, medical providers, and opposing counsel.
- Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and correspondence.
- Assist attorneys with case strategy, investigation, and trial preparation.
- Gather, review, organize, and summarize medical records, billing records, and other case-related documentation.
- Coordinate records requests and monitor receipt of necessary documents.
- Manage discovery processes, including document production and case file organization.
- Maintain litigation calendars, track deadlines, and ensure compliance with court requirements.
- Schedule depositions, mediations, hearings, and client meetings.
- Conduct factual investigations and legal research as directed.
- Prepare settlement demand packages and assist with negotiations.
- Organize exhibit files, witness materials, and trial notebooks.
- Support attorneys during trials, hearings, and mediations.
- Maintain accurate electronic and physical case files.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree, Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a personal injury, civil litigation, or litigation paralegal.
- Strong understanding of litigation procedures and court filing requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Preferred
- Experience with Kansas and Missouri state court litigation.
- Familiarity with electronic filing systems in federal and state courts.
- Experience using legal case management software.
- Trial preparation and courtroom support experience.
