SEIU Pay Range: $27.03 to $40.75 dependent on experience.

About the role

The Outpatient Scheduling Representative is responsible for scheduling all routine and non-routine medical services with various healthcare providers and departments. This includes entering the appropriate diagnostic testing, demographics, and insurance information into the electronic medical record to facilitate patient care and billing integrity. Outpatient Scheduling Representatives help to ensure that patients flow through the scheduling and registration systems as quickly and efficiently as possible while also ensuring that all fiscal and clinical procedures are followed consistently. Provides a person-centered experience and supports a positive workplace by maintaining an upbeat and professional work environment while completing all assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner.

Responsibilities

  • Apply HIPAA regulations and policies to ensure proper handling of confidential patient records and explain the law and privacy policy to patients.
  • Maintain all records in good order and keep appropriate documentation of access to medical records.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail, set priorities, and maintain an organized work environment.
  • Work in a self-directed manner to accomplish assigned tasks in accordance with CMH policies and procedures.
  • Follow directions and work quickly and efficiently in an environment with varying workloads and interruptions.
  • Work collaboratively with co-workers and providers.
  • Use current technology, including Microsoft Office products, with demonstrated keyboarding and data entry skills for quick and accurate data input.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, co-workers, and providers, maintaining composure in stressful circumstances.
  • Operate telephone systems, handle a high volume of calls in a timely and professional manner, and apply active listening skills (confirming and clarifying information).
  • Follow established protocols and understand urgent/emergent guidelines and STAT scenarios.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of clerical/medical office experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in filing and record-keeping practices.
  • Strong telephone and verbal communication skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time.
  • Involves standing, walking, stooping, and occasional carrying and lifting of lightweight materials (up to 20 pounds).
  • Requires visual acuity and depth perception to recognize words and numbers, as well as hand and finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination to use a computer keyboard and common office equipment.
  • Must be tolerant of Formalin/fixative solutions.
  • Must be able to multi-task while working under stressful conditions.
