Organ Recovery Coordinator (Critical Care RNs desired!)

About the Role

Sierra Donor Services (SDS) is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Organ Recovery Coordinator to join our team and help save lives through organ and tissue donation. In this role, you will facilitate all aspects of organ donation, leveraging your nursing background to oversee the procurement process. Organ Recovery Coordinators (ORCs) assess organ compatibility for recipients, expedite surgical and technical processes, and collaborate with hospital personnel and surgeons to ensure the safe and timely transfer of organs for transplant.

This position offers a higher level of autonomy while allowing you to utilize your critical care skills to provide a lifeline to those awaiting organ transplants.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates patient suitability for organ donation by reviewing medical records and consulting with medical staff.
• Coordinates organ placement and allocation with transplant programs and surgeons.
• Assists in the surgical recovery of organs and peri-operative management, including logistics such as arranging transportation, ensuring surgical packaging, and preparing lab specimens for shipment.
• Provides support to donor families and conducts medical/social history interviews.
• Updates donor information into the electronic medical record.
• Other duties as assigned.

This position requires a minimum availability of 15 days of call per month, with incentives available for additional availability.

Requirements

• Two or more years of prior experience in a critical care setting (ICU or equivalent).
• Registered Nursing (RN) License.
• Valid Driver’s License with the ability to pass MVR underwriting requirements.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and multitask.
• Exceptional teamwork, interpersonal, communication, and conflict management skills.
• Flexibility to work day and night shifts, weekends, and holidays based on organizational needs.
• Ability to creatively approach marketing and outreach.
