Summary
Responsible for cross functional activities such as: scheduling, auditing Operating Room procedures, as well as providing administrative support to the Perioperative Managers and Director.
Responsibilities
- Assesses and analyzes room availability, equipment/supply conflicts, block booking arrangements, and overall case to case time efficiency according to block scheduling policies and procedures.
- Captures and communicates necessary modifications or updates of the OR schedule to respective personnel &/or departments.
- Assists Periop Managers & Director in data based projects, as well as administrative functions.
- Prepares and distributes the final version of the surgery schedule to the appropriate departments.
- Communicates trends & patterns that may improve or impede the scheduling process, innovative ideas, and computer system issues to OR management in a prompt and timely manner.
- Maintains a good working atmosphere with co-worker(s) and hospital staff.
- Executes other responsibilities as assigned in a positive manner.
Preparation and Distribution of Surgery Schedule
- Demonstrates ability to accurately and efficiently enter MRN's, PA staff, and Anesthesia staff assignments.
- Coordinates with Admitting office, charge nurse(s), SPD, Purchasing, Anesthesiologists, Surgeons, and PAs to ensure accurate updates.
- Attempts to maximize rooms, and resources efficiently.
- Prepares final version of schedule and distributes it to the appropriate departments.
Communication
- Answers all communication devices promptly and courteously.
- Captures and communicates necessary modifications or updates to the surgery schedule with charge nurse(s), admitting dept., SPD, Purchasing, physicians' offices and OR administration.
- Communicates trends & patterns that may improve or impede the scheduling process, innovative ideas, and computer system issues to OR management in a prompt and timely manner.
- Handles correspondence as well as Orders & Maintains Office supplies, materials.
Other Departmental Responsibilities
- Transcribes accurately the OR scheduling procedures from Consent, Orders & Other affirmations prior to distribution.
- Communicates & Helps resolve effectively scheduling conflicts & issues to PAT, OR Staff, Surgeon's Offices & Anesthesia.
- Assists in Auditing OR Nursing e-Charting, supporting Quality, Regs, Billing & Supplies Usage.
- Helps Director & Managers with backup supports & projects i.e. Correspondence, U/S functions, Pain Management functions, Anesthesia Floater Schedule.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor preferred, Associates degree or an equivalent of three (3) years experience required.
- Excellent computer and communication skills.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology Required.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask effectively.
