Office Services Assistant - Part-Time - Shift - Frazier Park - Department Promotional - Library

This is a Department Promotional recruitment open to eligible employees of the Kern County Library who have successfully completed their initial probationary period and received an overall rating of standard or better on the last employee performance report.

Schedule

Library branches may be open various days and hours of the week, including evenings and weekends.

Examination

Examination components for promotional testing will be administered on scheduled dates, times, and locations without exception. Applicants must present valid government-issued photo identification to be admitted. A written exam (weight 100%) will assess knowledge of:

• Customer service principles
• Standard office procedures, methods, and equipment
• Basic filing and recordkeeping principles
• Basic mathematical concepts
• English language, grammar, and punctuation
• Other relevant topics

Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase. If there are insufficient candidates, the Human Resources Division may conduct an appraisal of application materials instead. A background check may be required for this classification. Following an offer of employment, post-offer medical and drug screening tests may be required at County expense.

This examination will establish an eligible list for immediate and future appointments. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for twelve months unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.

Requirements

• High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent OR a combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job
