Nursing Manager - ER

About the role
Single or multi-department management of operations. Manages day-to-day operations, directs, supervises, orients/trains, and evaluates staff. Enforces policies, procedures, and standards of operation. May have budgetary or fiscal accountability. Renders individualized comprehensive nursing care based on the nursing process to meet patient needs. Manages staff to meet designated goals, approves timekeeping, employee evaluations, regulatory standards, supply orders, and department strategic planning.
Responsibilities
- Provides patient care according to designated standards and practices; assists in monitoring and evaluating the appropriateness and effectiveness of patient care.
- Establishes mechanisms to track customer service performance and takes corrective action to address issues.
- Participates in the development of annual budgets for personnel, supplies, and equipment; manages to budget and monitors variances.
- Assists with Kronos/payroll to ensure accurate data entry.
- Participates in the interview, selection, and orientation of new team members in collaboration with nursing management and staff.
- Completes reports and institutes measures for unusual occurrences (e.g., patient falls, medication errors).
- Responsible for cost containment and conservation of supplies, equipment, and linen.
- Acts on ethical issues, including clinical concerns, harassment, and physician/nurse relations; maintains confidentiality.
- Evaluates department performance against targets and takes appropriate actions.
- Participates in committees and maintains continued survey readiness; leads survey readiness teams.
- Manages day-to-day staffing based on patient needs and caregiver skill levels; develops and posts staffing schedules.
- Guides staff in advancing education and leadership skills, including team building, conflict resolution, and delegation.
- Coordinates and ensures completion of orientation competency checklists for new hires and annual competencies for all employees.
- Manages employee performance through evaluations and coaching; conducts staff meetings as needed.
- Assists the Director with special projects and other related tasks or responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Nursing Degree from an Accredited Nursing School or Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum of 3–5 years clinical experience in Med/Surg and Telemetry.
- Minimum of 2 years management experience.
- Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Arizona.
- CPR certification required; ACLS certification required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
