About the role

The MUSC Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy, & Sleep Medicine is searching for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) interested in working full-time through outpatient clinical care for Sleep Medicine patients. He or she will join a busy and thriving division that includes over 50 Attendings, 24 Fellows, and 25 inpatient APPs, and 6 outpatient APPs.

Location

The Division works out of several clinical sites with this position’s primary outpatient location being in Mt. Pleasant’s Park West and North Charleston’s Dantzler locations.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm (40 hours per week).

Patient Population Focus

Outpatient patient population age range: 13 years to death.

Training & Experience

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant; or
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.

AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP): Adult patients (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.

FNP (Family NP): Birth to death; stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.

Preferred: 2 years of experience as a PA, FNP, or ANP.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) — current and complete prior to start date.
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.

Responsibilities

  • Take comprehensive history and perform physical examinations.
  • Evaluate and treat on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
  • Initiate referrals to other health care providers and/or consult with the attending or collaborating physician.
  • Document and bill for direct care provided.
  • Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
  • Perform and participate in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participate in and support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitate the learning of other new team members.
  • Maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law.
  • Develop own professional role in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Maintain membership and actively participate in at least one professional organization.
  • Remain current with literature as demonstrated by presentation(s) to staff and incorporating new knowledge into clinical practice.
  • Develop and implement clinical pathways and evaluate outcomes of clinical pathway guidelines to promote quality care.
  • Advance clinical knowledge through inquiry and research-based practice.

Physical Requirements

  • Continuous requirements: standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, and reach in all directions.
  • Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
  • Maintain 20/40 vision corrected; see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance.
  • Work in a latex-safe environment and work indoors.
  • Frequently lift, lower, push, and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (±) unassisted; exert up to 50 lbs of force; lift from 36″ to overhead 25 lbs.
  • Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
