Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides oversight of patient care and safety, patient, and family advocacy, and demonstrates expertise of the seclusion and restraint process.
- Meets with patients and/or staff when patient is experiencing compliance struggles. Consistently demonstrates support to patient and the treatment process.
- Maintains an efficient, safe, and productive work environment by delegating staff assignments and providing necessary coaching and support.
- Assists with the orientation of new employees, providing direction and coaching as needed.
- Participates in the admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality, patient-centered care.
- Oversights the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in the unit, collaborating with other multidisciplinary team members.
- Identifies and implements program revisions and appropriate unit metrics based on patient and staff feedback, as well as Performance Improvement metrics.
- Supports the efforts of the facility to improve engagement by operationalizing current nursing strategies, including rounding, incident reporting, and other initiatives.
- Assists with staff scheduling, managing all practical aspects of staff labor according to patient care needs and established productivity guidelines.
- Manages inventory control and assists with managing supplies and equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols, and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning, and continuing education opportunities.
Education/Training Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, (BSN) preferred.
- Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment. License must be in good standing with the State Board of Nursing in the state of employment.
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC) preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience as an RN within behavioral health preferred.
- Previous experience working as a team lead, preceptor, or trainer preferred.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
- Formal training in management of the aggressive patient within sixty (60) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
