About the Role

At Medical City Dallas, the HCA Healthcare Residency Program is a year-long, paid program designed to give new graduate nurses hands-on experience to establish valuable clinical and critical thinking skills. As a Resident I Graduate Nurse, you will be part of a supportive community that promotes learning, clinical application, and socialization, guiding you through the transition from student nurse to registered nurse.

The program includes:

  • Advanced clinical training in a specialty area
  • Monthly educational sessions
  • Preceptorship training with a facility preceptor
  • Measurement and evaluation of skills through hands-on simulations
  • Mentoring from experienced nurse leaders
  • Collaborative work on an evidence-based practice project

The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with department-specific requirements and state/specialty scope and standards. Using nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage," the RN Resident collaborates with medical providers and care teams to provide individualized, compassionate care while advocating for patients, families, and caregivers.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, reporting any changes in status
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers
  • Document administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient for therapeutic response
  • Notify provider and intervene as needed for unintended medication responses
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and anticipate patient needs proactively
  • Teach patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, status, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures
  • Translate complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State

Some travel may be needed for training.
